Albuquerque- The city of Albuquerque will move forward with the plans to build a new observation deck at the Albuquerque Sunport. During Monday night’s city council meeting District 1 city councilor Louie Sanchez made a proposal to withhold funds for the project until the Sunport turned in designs and cost estimates. The proposal failed by a 5 to 4 vote. Sanchez wanted to allocate $1.5 million of the projects funding toward planning and design. The current plan, is for the observation deck to be build passed the TSA security checkpoint, which means only travelers will be able to use the deck. The Sunport has plans to launch a Flyside Pass program, which will open post-security access to non-traveling guests. Sunport officials say the observation deck is the final phase of the “Dream of Flight” terminal renovation which is currently in the design phase.
