Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – Hurricane Polo making landfall early Tuesday morning in Baja California Sur, Mexico and tracking into Northwest Mexico and then into Southern New Mexico and Far West Texas including El Paso County. A Flood Watch is in effect through 6am Wednesday for all of New Mexico. Though rainfall rates will be less than 0.5 inches per hour for most periods, thunderstorms may bring rainfall rates up to 2 inches per hour. Areas most susceptible to flash flooding include areas in and downstream of burn scars, urban areas and any area that was hit hard last week. All areas will experience high flows in arroyos, streams and rivers. There is also a slight increased risk for landslides in steep terrain.
