Albuquerque, N.M. — The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office has announced a new multi-agency operation focused on arresting repeat offenders.
Sheriff John Allen revealed the initiative, called Operation Triple Beam, Wednesday night following a deputy-involved shooting in Albuquerque’s International District. The task force has been active for several weeks but was formally announced after the incident, where one man was arrested and another was shot by deputies after allegedly firing at officers while fleeing.
Allen says Operation Triple Beam replaces Operation Route 66, which began in the summer, because earlier arrests were not resulting in significant jail time. The new effort involves local and federal agencies working together to target individuals with multiple offenses.
