Chaz Mitchell Estrada 38, arrested for weekend murder in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE – Albuquerque police detectives have made an arrest in connection with the city’s latest homicide. 38-year old, Chaz Estrada was arrested late Sunday night for the fatal stabbing of 42-year old Travis Zabroski in the area of McCleod and San Mateo Blvd NE.
Homicide detectives say, that Estrada and Zabroski got into a heated argument at the A-1 Self Storage facility located at 5115 San Mateo Blvd, NE. The victim, Zabroski, was at the storage facility with a woman who was renting one of the units when Estrada arrived and he began arguing with the victim. According to police, Zabroski grabbed his belongings and walked away from the business, walking west on McCleod Road, but video surveillance shows Estrada following him and then allegedly fatally stabbed Zabroski.
When officers arrived, they found Zabroski dead on the scene with several stab wounds on his body including one to the upper chest. Police also noticed that Estrada went back to the storage facility after the stabbing leaving a trail of blood and had argued with the unidentified woman.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Estrada, who was staying at a half-way house after being released from jail and he was taken into custody late Sunday on charges of an open count of murder in the first degree and tampering with evidence. He is still in the Metropolitan Detention Center without bond.
