Santa Fe, NM (KKOB) – Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has asked President Donald Trump to issue a major disaster declaration related to the recent flooding across New Mexico. The Governor requested an emergency declaration last week to reimburse the state for rescues, emergency response, and debris removal. The federal government only offered direct agency assistance, not financial help for families and local governments.
According to assessments from the state, around 600 homes were damaged in the floods, which included 353 severely damaged or destroyed. The governor’s office says that number could climb to 2,000.
