BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. — A man has been charged with homicide by motor vehicle following a fatal two-vehicle crash early Sunday morning at the intersection of Bridge Boulevard and Atrisco Road, according to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched to the crash scene at approximately 12:42 a.m. on Nov. 1 and found multiple people injured. A female occupant was pronounced dead at the scene, while the drivers of both vehicles were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The Bernalillo County Traffic Investigation Unit responded to investigate the collision.
According to preliminary findings, investigators believe a Hyundai Santa Cruz was traveling westbound on Bridge Boulevard at a high rate of speed when it entered the intersection against a red traffic signal and collided with a Hyundai Tucson that was traveling southbound through the intersection.
Sheriff’s deputies said evidence gathered at the scene and witness statements indicate alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.
The driver of the Hyundai Santa Cruz, identified by authorities as Osvaldo Valenzuela, was arrested and charged with homicide by motor vehicle.
The identity of the woman who died has not been released.
The investigation remains ongoing.
