Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – Some tense moments this morning for Albuquerque Fire Rescue crews as they were putting out a fire at an abandonded boarded up single-family home in southeast Albuquerque at 442 Alcazar St NE, which is near Lomas and Louisiana. At around 6 this morning, units arrived to the scene and saw signs of a fire. While fire crews were about to go into the basement of the home the floor collapsed and two firefighters fell into the basement. Both firefighters were evaluated on scene and did not require to be transported to the hospital. It took almost an hour to get the fire under control.
Damage to the structure was severe and considered a total loss. No injuries were reported but while the cause of the fire is still being investigated, there were signs of squatters occupying the structure.
