ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico Police Department officially opened its new headquarters Tuesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the UNM campus.
The new facility is located at the corner of Mesa Vista Avenue and University Boulevard and replaces the department’s previous headquarters, which had shared space with an on-campus residence hall since the mid-1990s.
University officials say the new building is part of a larger effort to strengthen safety and security across campus. The headquarters is one of several recent public safety investments made by the university in recent years.
The project carries a price tag of approximately $17 million, according to UNM officials.
Leaders say the new facility is designed to better support law enforcement operations and provide improved resources for officers serving students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
The opening marks another step in the university’s ongoing campus safety initiatives as enrollment and activity continue across UNM’s main campus.
