Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –The second annual Roswell National Championship Air Races begin today (Wed) at the Roswell Air Center. New Mexico’s own Team Zia Jet Racing and Capt. Carol Sugars received flight certification and qualified to race in the Silver Jet Class. Team Zia Jet Racing is New Mexico’s premier jet racing team, founded by retired Air Force fighter pilot and American Airlines Captain Lt. Col. Scott Weaver. The team combines competitive air racing with aviation outreach, STEM education, veteran leadership, and aerospace innovation. Team Zia will be racing this week with a larger purpose as they have partnered with Folds of Honor New Mexico to support educational scholarships for the spouses and children of America’s fallen or disabled military service members and first responders.
