Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –An assault on an inmate by his former cellmate in 2021 at the Curry County Adult Detention Center lead to the sentencing of Corey Dixon on Friday to 19 and a half years in prison. The assaulted inmate, Michael Bradley, who was legally blind and 63 at the time, was found badly injured and covered in blood after Dixon beat him in their cell. Bradley suffered severe head trauma, brain bleeds and significant injuries to both eyes and had to be airlifted to Plains Regional Medical Center in Lubbock. Surveillance video showed Dixon punching and choking Bradley, hitting him with his walking cane, and stomping on Bradley’s head while he was lying on the floor. The cause of the beating, according to witness testimony, Dixon was apparently angry about having to share a cell with Bradley. Bradley died in 2024. Dixon was convicted by a jury of attempt to commit murder by deliberate killing and possession of a deadly weapon by a prisoner.
