Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – A confrontation between a man and APD officers has resulted on one person dead by police and minor injuries to two officers. The shooting happened in the area of 8th street and Bellamah near downtown. Police responded to an initial call of a man reportedly in a mental health crisis. When they arrived, police say they heard yelling coming from inside a home. Family members were also inside but were able to come out of the house. The man then did come out to speak with officers who tried using less-lethal force but it wasn’t effective in subduing him. He then ran inside and fired a round from inside the home hitting a patrol unit. Two officers received minor injuries from shattered glass. Shortly after that, the man came out of the house once again but this time armed with a firearm and an exchange of gunfire took place. The man was shot and went inside the home where police pronounced him dead. The man has not been identified and APD says they will provide more details when they become available.
