Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – Albuquerque Police has provided more information regarding an officer involved shooting that happened Sunday night. Police say, 53-year old Duane Wilson was shot in the stomach by officers after they say he pulled a gun outside a home on the 6200 block of Gonzales Road SW.
Police say the shooting happened as officers were trying to de-escalate the situation and take Wilson into custody.
According to police, Wilson’s girlfriend called police to report that Wilson had been drinking and became violent. They say she reported that he allegedly hit her several times with a closed fist, grabbed her by the throat and didn’t allow her to breathe. Grabbed her phone and continued to assault her.
Once officers arrived at the residence, they tried to get Wilson out of the home and surrender peacefully. Officers report that’s when Wilson grabbed a gun from his waistband and was shot by one of the officers on scene.
Wilson has been charged with several felonies and will be booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center once he is out of the hospital.
