ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO – A 16-year-old boy is in custody in connection with a deadly shooting that happened last month in Albuquerque.
According to police, the teen was arrested Monday afternoon and is now being held at the Bernalillo County Juvenile Detention Center. He is accused in the shooting death of 39-year-old Gino Garza near Fox Memorial Park.
Investigators say the incident happened April 2, when Garza pulled over in the area and got into an argument with another teenager who was with the suspect. During the confrontation, police say both Garza and the 16-year-old were armed.
Shots were fired, and Garza was struck twice. He died at the scene.
An arrest warrant had been issued following the shooting, and officers had been searching for the suspect for several weeks before taking him into custody.
Because of his age, the teen’s name has not been released. The case remains under investigation.
