ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO – Bernalillo County property owners are running out of time to pay the second half of their 2025 property taxes before late penalties take effect.
While payments were originally due April 10, state law allows a 30-day grace period before taxes are considered delinquent. This year, because May 10 falls on a Sunday, property owners have until the next business day to submit payment without penalties.
After that deadline, a one percent penalty will be applied each month to unpaid balances. The penalty cannot be less than five dollars and cannot exceed five percent of the total taxes owed. An additional one percent monthly interest charge will also be added until the balance is paid.
Bernalillo County Treasurer Tim Eichenberg says property owners who are already behind—particularly those delinquent for multiple years—should act quickly.
“If you’ve been delinquent for three years, you may receive a notice this June,” Eichenberg said. “Contact our office now, so we can help you keep your home.”
Payments can be made online, by mail, or in person through the Bernalillo County Treasurer’s Office.
Officials encourage property owners with questions about their account or payment options to contact the office directly for assistance.
