SAN JUAN COUNTY, N.M. — Emergency officials have issued evacuation orders for portions of San Juan County as water levels continue to rise along the Animas River, La Plata River, and San Juan River.
County officials say the following areas are under evacuation orders:
- Areas between Cedar Street and Murray Drive and Broadway Avenue to Auburn Avenue in Farmington
- All locations within a half-mile of the Animas, La Plata, and San Juan rivers throughout the county
- Areas along the San Juan River from Hogback to Four Corners
- Areas from the New Mexico-Colorado state line to the confluence of the Animas and San Juan rivers in Farmington
Officials say flooding concerns continue to increase as river levels rise across the region.
In addition to evacuation orders, authorities warn that numerous low-water crossings throughout San Juan County have become hazardous. Several roads are experiencing flooding impacts, and travelers are urged to use caution as conditions continue to change.
Due to the ongoing weather emergency, schools in the Farmington, Bloomfield, and Shiprock areas will be closed Monday.
Emergency shelters have been established for residents displaced by flooding. Individuals needing temporary housing can shelter at McGee Park at the San Juan County Fairgrounds.
Separate accommodations have also been arranged for animals:
- Livestock can be taken to Cow House/4 Corners Stockyard
- A temporary pet shelter has been established at 109 East Piñon Street in Farmington
Emergency management officials continue monitoring river levels and weather conditions as flooding impacts communities across northwestern New Mexico.
