Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — There’s 1,052 pounds of pumpkin sitting in front of Jericho Nursery off Alameda Street. “Mayfield”, as it’s been named by its grower Allen Clark, has broken the state record for giant pumpkin. That record, was set by Clark in 2025 with a 1,010-pound pumpkin. And in 2024, he grew the biggest pumpkin the New Mexico State Fair had seen at 947 pounds. The “gourd maestro” says the idea of growing a giant pumpkin started with a 10 pound pumpkin. Then, he upped the ante with a 50 pound pumpkin. Then he found out there’s a whole online culture of dedicated giant pumpkin grower, and that’s the point where he got lost in the pumpkin rabbit hole. “Mayfield” is actually named after Clark’s beloved German Shepard mix, who passed away over the summer at nearly 13 years old. Clark says “She was my garden helper.”
