Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –UNM’s 24th President was introduced to media today at a press conference on campus. Dr. Steve Goldstein, a nationally recognized physician-scientist, educator, and higher education leader comes to UNM from the University of California’s Irvine campus. Dr. Goldstein stated that UNM has unique strengths and unique challenges adding “the University of NM priorities are NM priorities. UNM’s successes are NM’s successes and the University is here to serve the state.” He went on to outline priorities for the university that include student safety, affordability, economic development, career pathways for students, cyber security, creation of a children’s hospital and creating a health grid. The health grid, coming out of an idea from the National Institute of Health, when implemented, would safely share a patient’s health information to better serve patients where they are or across the country. Dr Goldstein went on to say that a capital campaign program with a goal of raising $1.2 billion dollars is halfway to that mark at over $600,000 million so far..
