Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – An Albuquerque man has been sentenced to more than 24 years in prison after pleading guilty to killing his mother’s boyfriend.
Paul Otero, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the December 2024 shooting and was sentenced to 24 and a half years in state prison.
Police say Otero admitted taking the victim’s handgun and planning to shoot him. Officers found Otero in a nearby alley after the shooting on the 3400 block of Alpha Ave. NW.
Police say Otero’s mother became upset with her son after discovering he had taken her boyfriends gun.
She confronted Otero and told him to return the gun. Shortly after, she heard gunshots from the bedroom where her boyfriend was standing.
The mother went to a neighbor’s house, where they called 911, saying her son shot her boyfriend.
