Grants, NM (KKOB) – Another city in New Mexico has canceled their contract and removing Flock license plate reader cameras.
The Grants Police Department will stop using the cameras, citing privacy concerns raised by community members and will look for other security technology options. Chief Maxine Monte saying “The main reason was the safety of our community.” The city had installed four license plate readers and four cameras in 2022, before she became chief. She also says the cameras have assisted police, including in the capture of a wanted man from Oklahoma, but privacy concerns led the city to terminate three contracts with Flock Safety and they’ve asked the company to deactivate and remove the cameras.
