Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –UNM is increasing security with new measures that include a mobile safety app, controlled access to buildings and expanded surveillance around campus. The new app, called UNM Safe connects users directly with UNM Police dispatch. It includes a blue light button, safety tools, anonymous tip reporting, GPS location assistance and the ability to send texts and photos to dispatch. Fifteen hundred camera views backed by a recording system are now operating on campus along with permanent gates on Central and Girard. Residence halls now have a single controlled entrance and students must use their Lobo ID to enter. The new app, UNM Safe, is free and officials are encouraging the campus community to begin using it.
