ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office says it is continuing to investigate reports involving an armed individual in the Ventana Ranch area and is working to identify and locate the person.
According to BCSO, the individual has not been positively identified or arrested, and investigators are still determining whether criminal charges are supported by the evidence.
Sheriff’s officials emphasized that the investigation is not based solely on the fact that the individual was openly carrying firearms, which is generally legal in New Mexico. Instead, deputies are investigating the full circumstances surrounding reported behavior that caused residents to fear for their safety.
Because the investigation remains active, authorities say they are not releasing additional details about the reported conduct at this time.
BCSO is asking residents not to approach or engage the individual if they see someone matching the previously released description or updated photograph. Anyone who spots the person is urged to move to a safe location and call 911.
Investigators are also seeking photographs, video, previous sightings, or other information that could help identify or locate the individual. Tips can be submitted through the agency’s Tip411 system.
The sheriff’s office says additional information will be released as it becomes available and when doing so will not compromise the ongoing investigation.
