Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – Albuquerque is moving forward with the next phase of its Rail Trail project, a planned seven-mile loop connecting several major destinations across the city.
The upcoming section will link the Sawmill District and Old Town, while future connections are expected to tie the trail into the BioPark and the Bosque. Albuquerque city leaders say the design was updated after receiving feedback from residents.
New plans include additional lighting, emergency call boxes, and regular patrols aimed at improving safety along the route. While some neighbors have expressed concerns about the project over overcrowding and higher traffic in their neighborhoods, supporters say it will transform underused land into a space for walking and biking, while improving access between neighborhoods and popular attractions.
The city expects residents in the West Old Town area to begin seeing changes to the project site this fall.
