ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to a reported gas leak at a northeast Albuquerque nursing home Saturday, but investigators later determined the incident was not caused by a hazardous substance.
AFR crews and New Mexico Gas responded to the facility near Interstate 25 and Forest Hills Road after receiving reports of a possible gas leak.
As a precaution, emergency crews evacuated the building while firefighters and utility personnel investigated the source of the concern. Officials said no injuries were reported during the evacuation.
Albuquerque Fire Rescue’s Hazardous Materials Team took over the investigation and conducted testing at the scene.
According to AFR, crews found no evidence of natural gas or other hazardous materials. Investigators later determined the substance that prompted the response was a combination of saline solution and aspirin.
The scene was cleared after officials confirmed there was no threat to residents or staff.
