Las Cruces, NM (KKOB) – A woman was shot and killed and her 32-year-old son is now charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the shooting, that police say also involved an attempted suicide.
First responders found 58-year-old Tina Lucero, with a gunshot wound to the chest, she died on the scene.
Police arrested her son, Lawrence Lopez who also had a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his hand and was treated at the hospital before being taken to the Doña Ana County Detention Center.
Police report that Lopez earlier had pulled out a gun and allegedly threatened to commit suicide and his mother tried to stop him by trying to take the gun away from him and that’s when the gun fired.
LCPD said the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
