ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A growing dental education program in Albuquerque is adding more students as part of an effort to expand access to oral healthcare across New Mexico.
Touro College of Dental Medicine announced that 100 dental students began clinical training at its Albuquerque facility on June 15, marking the program’s second class in the state.
The students will complete the hands-on portion of their education locally, treating patients under the supervision of licensed faculty. Officials say the program is designed to provide lower-cost dental care while also helping address workforce needs across the region.
The facility, located near the Gateway Center, includes more than 100 dental chairs and offers a range of services, including general dentistry and specialty care such as oral surgery, orthodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
School leaders say the program also creates opportunities for students with ties to New Mexico to complete their training in-state, while contributing to care in underserved communities.
The expansion comes as New Mexico continues to face challenges in access to dental care, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
