Mountainair, NM (KKOB) – The EMS chief of Mountainair’s Emergency Medical Services Department is on administrative leave following allegations that he sexually assaulted a 15-year-old in 2022 while working at the Estancia Municipal School District.
39-year old Josh Lewis, is facing sexual related assault and rape charges. Lewis, was among the first responders hospitalized during the deadly Mountainair hazmat response earlier this year.
Torrance County Court documents indicate that the 15-year-old girl who was a student when Lewis was working with the school district, also babysat his children and worked at a restaurant Lewis owned.
In a July, Lewis pled not guilty to the charges. He’s scheduled to be in court on Sept. 16.
Neither he nor his attorney could be immediately reached for comment Wednesday according to the Albuquerque Journal.
Mountainair Mayor Peter Nieto declined to comment on the allegations against Lewis, but did say it will not interfere with EMS operations.
