Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –The APS Board of Education received academic assessment results from district officials on Wednesday. The results show encouraging progress in early literacy among students identified under the Yazzie Martinez education lawsuit and African American students. However middle school math proficiency goals lag behind annual targets. In reading, over 29% of first graders scored at or above grade-level proficiency with 33% of second graders reaching proficiency. In math, middle school students had modest improvement but district officials said not enough to meet annual benchmarks. APS plans to implement changes this school year to improve math achievement.
