Nearly 35 years after her disappearance the Albuquerque Police Department has identified a woman known as “Becca Doe.” According to APD, police began their investigation on June 6, 1991 after staff at the Super 8 Motel on University NE discovered an 18 year old woman’s body in a hotel room. Her death was confirmed a suicide by OMI. The victim, now identified as Becca Mallekoote, from Tacoma Washington was last seen in 1991 in the Los Angeles area. A genealogy investigation in December of 2025 led to location of a half brother and step father in California the following month. The half-brother was located and DNA samples confirmed that Becca was the half-sister with 100 percent confidence. Heather Jarrell, Chief Medical Examiner said, “Becca’s identity was discovered through collaboration between multiple agencies and advancing technology. With this kind of partnership and a new frontier of forensic genealogy, I’m optimistic that we will be able to provide more answers to more families who mysteriously lost a loved one.”
