FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) San Juan County has a new adult entertainment law that restricts where new establishments can be located. The Daily Times reports that the ordinance approved Tuesday by the County Commission will require that new adult businesses be located at least 1,000 feet from similar businesses and certain other places. Those include homes, religious assemblies, libraries, child care centers, community centers, public parks and elementary and secondary schools.
The law also requires businesses to get a $250 annual license.
Adult store owner Joe Wojcik criticized the ordinance, saying the county shouldn't single out his type of retail business. Strip club owner Jacqueline Ritchie supported the ordinance, saying it'll help prevent larger operations from running her out of business.
The ordinance takes effect in 120 days.
