BLOOMFIELD, N.M. (AP) Two more New Mexico school districts have adopted alternative paths for high school seniors to graduate. The Farmington Daily Times reports boards for the Aztec Municipal School District and Bloomfield School District recently approved alternative options for students who fail portions of the New Mexico Standards Based Assessment test required for graduation. District-level alternatives include a passing or “C'' grade on a subject's final exam and acceptance to a four-year institute of higher learning.
A provision by the New Mexico Public Education Department allows school districts to create district-level alternatives to state requirements. Aztec and Bloomfield join Farmington and Las Cruces school districts in approving district-level alternate graduation paths.
In 2012, state records showed the four-year graduate rate for New Mexico was 70 percent.
