LOS CHAVES, N.M. (AP) Firefighters have all but officially contained a brush fire that burned 11 acres of grass west of the Rio Grande south of Los Chaves in Valencia County. New Mexico State Forestry says the fire apparently had stopped spreading by late Sunday but that full containment wasn't declared immediately due to the potential for re-ignition of smoldering fuels.
A State Forestry engine will remain on the scene Monday to work on any hot spots that are detected and to make sure all containment lines are holding.
The so-called Lucky 7 fire was sparked by a malfunctioning transformer. The fire destroyed a shed and for a time threatened several homes.
