LOS LUNAS, N.M. (AP) The owner of a Los Lunas livestock auction has pleaded guilty to some charges under an agreement that also resulted in dismissal of the most serious charges against him in connection with a horse-abuse case.
Dennis Chavez has faced 12 misdemeanors, including animal cruelty and lack of bill of sale. He pleaded guilty Monday to four counts of lack of a bill of sale, and the cruelty charges were dropped.
The charges stemmed from Chavez taking possession of several horses in June 2012. One died at the auction grounds, and three others were euthanized later.
