INJURED NM TODDLER IN ALLEGED ABUSE CASE DIES

FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) Authorities say an injured Farmington toddler whose guardians are accused of child abuse has died. Chief Deputy District Attorney Dustin O'Brian says Izakia Davis died Oct. 16 at a hospice where the 17-month-old boy was taken after being transferred from a hospital.

The Daily Times reports that court documents indicate the boy had a skull fracture, fluid on the brain and multiple broken bones. The documents also indicated he needed a ventilator to breath.

The boy's biological father, 23-year-old Angel Arellano, and his fiance, 21-year-old Leilah Hastings, were arrested Sept. 27 on suspicion of child abuse.
