GROUP TO ALBUQUERQUE POLICE: END CHAPLAIN’S UNIT

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) The chaplain's unit of Albuquerque police has become a target of a national group seeking to remove religion out of government. KOB-TV reports that the Freedom From Religion Foundation wants the Albuquerque Police Department to disband its chaplain's unit.

The Madison, Wis.-based group says the unit is unfair and unconstitutional. The group also says it discriminates against those with no religion and has sent a letter to the mayor's office asking for the chaplain's unit to cease operations.

Albuquerque Police Department officials say they want to see the letter before responding.
