Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — Senate Bill 23, the bill that would ban cell phones in schools has sailed through the Senate Education Committee on a 7 -2 vote. It now heads to the Senate Judiciary Committee. If the law makes it to the Governor’s desk it would begin in the next school year. The cellphone ban would be phased in over the next three years beginning with middle schools. The ban would be mandatory for all public school districts and charter schools. The legislation does set aside $1 million to purchase lock pouches or other phone storage options
