POLICE: NEW MEXICO MAN ESCAPES GUN FIRE WITH KNIFE

ALAMOGORGO, N.M. (AP) Police say it was a case of a man bringing a knife to a gun fight and winning. The Alamogordo Daily News reports a 65-year-old man stabbed Johnnie Ridley last week after Ridley fired a .22 caliber revolver during an argument. Alamogordo Detective Sgt. Dave McColley says the man feared he was going to be shot and stabbed Ridley in the leg.

The 47-year-old Ridley faces a number of charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was taken to a hospital and later released. The man who stabbed Ridley was not charged. It was not known if Ridley had an attorney.

Ridley's arrest photo shows him wearing a T-shirt that reads: “You didn't beat me. I let you win.''
