June 14th’s Pets of the Week

Last week’s featured dog Mosley, had fun in our softer play groups and enjoyed walks and affection. Coal enjoyed her walks and cuddle time with our volunteers but they both are still hopeful so if your heart has considered saving a life Mosley the Labrador/Sharpei mix and Coal the easy going heeler are ready to go home with you. They will bring you many years of joy and companionship. Many of us believe that once you have adopted a rescue/shelter dog they know that you have saved their lives so are very devoted to their people.

Well, I may be showing my age but when writing bios for the pets featured this week I remembered two wonderful musicals. So if you are a fan of musicals maybe I’ve captured your attention…..do you remember My Fair Lady and Gigi?

Lady (ID# A 1667385) is a 2 year old, female American Pit Bull Terrier & German Shepherd mix. She weighs 53.8 pounds. This girl is a multi-faceted and wants to be your fair lady. She has beautiful markings in a “fun-sized” body. Lady has a shy side until she figures you out.  This little tank loves to run, will head straight for you then dive off into the kiddy pool. She especially enjoys lying down and rolling over splashing in the pool. Lady also enjoys resting her head in your lap or nuzzling you with kisses. She enjoys taking walks although can be timid in new areas and around new sounds. We suggest a harness so you and Lady will be safe and secure. She is a very smart girl. She knows the cue for sit and plays a little game with our volunteers. Like many dogs Lady does not want to return to her kennel. When a new volunteer is ready to return her she plays “pancake” stopping and seemingly too tired or sad to return. Those of us that know Lady well know this is a game and have learned how to play our parts changing direction or pointing out something fun to interest her. Lady enjoys playing with other dogs. Even though she has been known to “body slam” another dog in play being the Lady she is she does not want to be treated roughly in play. She is more than happy to meet your present companion and see if they are a good match. Lady would also be happy just having her very own family all to herself. Come to the Eastside shelter and see what a fun gal Lady is.

Gigi (ID# A 1691418) is a 4 year old, female brindle Australian Shepherd mix. She weighs 36 pounds. Gigi is calling out to an active family. She would love to be your jogging or hiking partner. She would love to learn and train in agility with you, after all she is a herding dog. She is a very smart gal already knowing the cue for sit. She would love to attend the free training class that will accompany her adoption. She could be the star student. Gigi also loves to play fetch. For those of you that “Face book” please go to the Albuquerque Animal Welfare page to view Gigi’s video as well as several other pets available for adoption. “Like” the page and you will be able to view many fun videos of dogs and play groups. Gigi has a softer side enjoying curling up on a bench for some loving and just watching the world passing by. Gigi has participated in play with a couple different dogs. She prefers just one at a time rather than a crowd. She may not be experienced in the art of doggie play and does tend to herd her play mate using her head and mouth but she had a great time. As always we suggest bringing in your present companion for a meet and greet with your prospective adoptee. This darling girl would do just fine being your one and only companion in all things too. This energetic herding girl would do best with older children. In dog years she is a teen so perhaps a human teen could be her new best friend. Gigi may not speak French but she speaks the language of love by showering you with kisses and being your constant companion. Come meet Gigi at our Eastside shelter.
