SANTA FE, N.M. – Santa Fe Police are looking for a burglar who they say broke into a home while the owner was still inside. The thief allegedly stole more than $10,000 worth of jewelry. Officers hope the victim’s surveillance video will help solve the crime. The incident happened in the 600 block of Don Gaspar Friday, May 2, 2014, in between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. Home surveillance video shows a Hispanic or Native American man approach the residence and prowl about the property. The man appears to be in his late 40’s. He has dark hair and is wearing a blue jacket and khaki pants. There were no signs of forced entry.
The homeowner told police she was inside the house getting ready when she heard a ‘banging sound’ just before 6:30 a.m. coming from the ventilation system. When a caregiver arrived at the residence, she saw the suspect leaving the property. Both women then discovered the home had been burglarized. The suspect allegedly stole multiple pieces of jewelry including a 24 karat yellow gold baby bracelet with Greek lettering on it, a 24 karat yellow gold bracelet with round ornate links, and multiple other pieces of jewelry.
