Energetic cuddle bug Bolo the cattle dog is still hoping to find his forever love this Valentines Day weekend. Boy is now at Lucky paws renamed Harley. This stout fun loving affectionate boy is hoping his new location may help him find true love.
Chelsea (ID#A 1686076) is a 1 year & 4 month old female, black & white, Labrador Retriever mix. She weighs 53 pounds. Some how, this sweet young girl became lost from her home. Chelsea is a typical energetic and playful lab. She loves to play with toys and run around the yard. Give her a few minutes to get to know you and then she will be your best friend. She could use a little practice on leash but improves with time out and frequent walks. She enjoys investigating her surroundings. She is a smart girl already knowing the cue for sit. It seemed she was inexperienced around other dogs. She is interested in other dogs but can be shy initially when meeting new dogs. We have had her participate in several softer play groups recently. One of our exceptional play group greeters Kaylin (now at Lucky Paws) encouraged Chelsea to play. When we gently encouraged Chelsea to play with softer play dogs she began having a fun time. She seems a bit more comfortable with dogs smaller than she like Kaylin and fellow playmate Herry. She did slowly become comfortable playing with a couple dogs her size but seems to prefer one on one play rather than group play. As always we are happy to help with meet and greets between prospective companions. Chelsea could be just as happy being the only companion receiving much deserved love and attention. She is located at our Eastside shelter ready and waiting to find her true forever loving home.
Zuni (ID# A 1688941) is a 3 year old, female sable Alaskan Malamute mix. She weighs 38.2 pounds, much smaller than what you would picture for a Malamute. She actually is a very nice size. This shy sweet girl became lost and yes, she was found wandering on a street named Zuni. She is a bit shy in our kennels when they the dogs are competing for attention from the people walking by. We think she may have been left lonely in a back yard. Just this week someone came in and said with her coat she should be an “outside” dog. We explained that just because she has a longer coat she can not take the cold in winter or the heat in summer. Just look at her soulful eyes in her picture. Zuni is hoping to find true companionship. She wants to be her people’s shadow following them around the house and only on occasion be in a back yard but not spend most hours a day in a yard alone. She is a dream to walk on leash and she loves her daily walks. She stays close and does not pull. Once she bonds with you she may try to hug you but she is very gentle. Zuni can be a bit shy at first but with a little sweet talk she quickly becomes affectionate and snuggles. She has a soft and gentle demeanor but can enjoy a short run around the yard or a back scratch in the grass. Zuni would do best in a calm quiet home. It seems she may not have been around children and their loud and quick movements frighten her a bit. We picture her being a constant companion following her people around the house and then just lying under the desk, keeping feet warm or curling up next to them on the couch if allowed. She is not a needy dog but desperately wants to be in the company of her people and not left in a back yard alone again. She would welcome a name change to match her sweet disposition and beauty. She is at our Eastside shelter ready to capture your heart.
We are calling out to all the people in our community with huge hearts this loving time of year. Sadly we have some sweet older dogs that have found themselves at our shelter for a variety of reasons. Perhaps you are looking for a steadfast easy companion. You don’t have the time, constant effort and energy needed to train a puppy when bringing them into your home. You want someone to accompany you on daily walks, curl up while watching television or reading a good book. We have some perfect matches for you. There too many broken hearts at our shelter. They could be perfect companions for older people or those of us that have a calmer quiet home atmosphere.
Sweet Rafe (ID# A 1072243- Eastside) a 10 year old, male black lab was surrendered because he is too old. He might be a bit stiff but loves his daily walks, petting and nuzzling someone.
Fun loving talented Buster (ID# A 0757323-Eastside) a 10 year old, male Queensland Heeler became lost and no one came for him. He loves walks and petting. He knows sit, down, shakes paws, stays, comes and love to fetch tennis balls.
A friendly loving and easy to walk companion Toofers ( ID# A 1684519-Eastside) a 9 year old, Lab/Pit Bull Terrier was surrendered back in November of 2013 and through our caring staff & volunteers remains a happy go lucky boy still today but he would cherish a forever home.
Buppy (ID# A 1657832-Eastside) a 11 year old, male Parson’s Jack Russell mix found his way as a stray to our shelter. Like many of us he could use a few more walks but is easy on leash, loves love and attention and would bring a smile to your face each day.
Cisco (ID# A 1661341) a 7 year old, male Smooth coated Chihuahua came to us when his owner passed away. He is a spunky boy that loves to take walks and bonds to people quickly. .
Casino (ID# A 1688889-Eastside) a 12 year old, male, smooth coated Chihuahua mix also somehow became lost. He is quite handsome. He enjoys wearing a nice coat while out walking and spending time on a lap is the best part of his day.
Lola (ID# A 0962971-Lucky Paws) is a 7 year old, female, Australian Cattle dog mix with a lovely coat. She is a great medium size girl. She loves affection, walks and a bit of running in the yard. Her owner said she had a seizure so surrendered her. She has been at the shelter since December 4th and has never presented anything like a seizure. She is not on medication but we do need her future parent to be aware and acknowledge that her previous owner reported it.
Sadly I could mention many more. We love spending time with these sweet souls but it breaks our hearts to leave them each day when we go home. They have so much to offer someone willing to overlook a few grey hairs and less energy.
Our East and Westside shelters will be closed on Sunday, 2/16 and Monday 2/17 in observance of President’s Day but will resume regular hours on Tuesday 2/18.
