OFFICERS SEIZE 254 POUNDS OF POT AT NM BORDER

SANTA TERESA, N.M. (AP) Border authorities have seized more than 250 pounds of marijuana during a vehicle stop at the Santa Teresa port of entry. Port Director Jesse Proctor says the smugglers went to much effort to conceal the drugs. The seizure was made Wednesday when Dodge work truck entered the port from Mexico. An officer at the primary inspection booth noted a number of issues during the initial conversation with the driver.

After drilling into the bottom of the truck bed, officers found a green substance that tested positive for marijuana. They also found two thin metal compartments containing plastic-wrapped bundles of marijuana. The drugs were valued at more than $200,000

Authorities say they arrested the driver, 31-year-old Jorge Macias of El Paso, Texas, on charges associated with the failed smuggling attempt.
