NORTHWEST NEW MEXICO COMMUNITY EXPANSION

The Bloomfield City Council approved a proposal that will more than double the city's size. The Farmington Daily Times reports that council members agreed to file a petition with the state's Boundary Commission to add 6,775 acres to the city's current 5,185 acres. Officials say the annexation is necessary in planning for future economic growth. Some business people who work in the drilling business oppose the annexation and said it would mark a fundamental shift in regulation.
