NM GRAND JURY TO CONSIDER FATAL POLICE SHOOTING

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) A grand jury will consider whether a fatal shooting by a New Mexico police officer was justified. District Attorney Angela “Spence'' Pacheco said Monday he has received the results of the New Mexico State Police investigation of the Nov. 7 shooting of 39-year-old Jeanette Anaya by Officer OIiver Wilson.

Police say Wilson fired into Anaya's car after it backed up toward the officer and hit his car. That was after a chase that began when Wilson saw Anaya driving erratically and she refused to stop. The shooting has drawn questions since Santa Fe police did not join the high-speed pursuit because state police dispatch did not give a reason for the pursuit.

Pacheco says it could be six to eight weeks before the case is presented to a grand jury.
