ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) A 21-year-old man has been convicted of second-degree murder in the death of his father following a fight between the two men in Albuquerque on November 2012. The Albuquerque Journal reports that Andrew Coppler faces nine years in prison after being convicted this week in the death of Keith “Joe'' Coppler of Cochiti.
The father died a week after his son held him in a choke hold after they struggled. The jury returned the verdict of second-degree murder after rejecting the alternate charge of voluntary manslaughter.
The Office of the Medical Investigator said Joe Coppler died from lack of oxygen to the brain due to compression of his neck and that an enlarged heart was a contributing factor.
