ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) A criminal complaint says a suspected drunken driver who was shot by Albuquerque police after pulling a gun on an officer kept fighting with police even after he was shot. The complaint released Tuesday says Robert Garcia ignored repeated commands not to reach for a nearby pellet gun following getting shot in the abdomen. Authorities say the 64-year-old later told police he wanted someone to shoot him.
Garcia is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center on a $15,000 cash/surety bond. He charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon.
The shooting was one the latest in a series of officer-involved shootings in New Mexico's largest city. The Albuquerque Police Department is under investigation by the U.S. Justice Department over alleged cases of abuse.
