ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) The University of New Mexico may create a new College for Social Transformation that would include numerous programs currently spread throughout a number of departments. The Albuquerque Journal reports the proposal got a boost recently when it was endorsed by a senior administrator, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Chaouki Abdallah.
The proposed new college would encompass Africana Studies, Asian American Studies, Chicana and Chicano Studies, Community Engagement Center and Peace Studies. It also would include Native American Studies, Research Service-Learning, Sustainability Studies, Women Studies and the Institute for the Study of “Race'' and Social Justice.
A planning group hopes to submit a final proposal to the provost next fall.
