SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) Fire managers are planning a prescribed burn to reduce hazardous fuels within the Santa Fe watershed. Officials with the Santa Fe National Forest say the plan calls for beginning the work Dec. 2. Depending on weather conditions, crews will burn slash piles incrementally over 115 acres through the end of January. The piles are several miles to the north and east of Santa Fe.
Forest officials say fire managers will be considering many factors before igniting the piles by hand. Those include moisture levels, the availability of firefighting resources and weather forecasts.
The work is expected to produce some smoke for the Santa Fe, Tesuque and Pecos Canyon areas.
