SUIT ALLEGES UNREASONABLE SEARCHES OF MAN’S BODY

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) A lawsuit filed on behalf of a southern New Mexico man says he was pulled over for not making a complete stop at a stop sign, taken to a hospital and forced to undergo multiple body cavity searches for drugs. According to the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court, those searches include an enema and colonoscopy. The suit also says police wanted the searches conducted because they thought he appeared to be clenching his buttocks when he got out of his car.

The lawsuit says authorities found no drugs but that the man is now being billed for the medical procedures conducted after the man was stopped on Jan. 2.

Most of those named in the suit have filed responses denying most of the allegations.
