ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) University of New Mexico officials are investigating the use of student law-students group's bank account to pay for purchases from establishments ranging from wine bars and retail stores to utilities and retail stores. The Albuquerque Journal says the investigation centers on purchases and cash withdrawals from a Student Bar Association account.
Officials say the transactions occurred from April 2012 through April 2013. The since-closed account contained money from the university and fees paid by Law School students. The university says its auditors are trying to determine whether laws were violated.
The university also says university policy requires student groups' money to be deposited into accounts established by the university controller.
