POLICE SAY SHOOTING IN LAS CRUCES LEAVES MAN DEAD

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) Police in Las Cruces say they have a suspect in custody after a shooting that left a man dead. Police spokesman Dan Trujillo says 30-year-old David Vallejos was hit with two shotgun blasts after getting in an argument with another man at a mobile home park on the city's south side Saturday evening.

Police says Vallejos complained to 19-year-old Andre Michael Perez about Perez not wearing a shirt while working on a car. Perez reportedly got a shotgun and put it inside his home's front door, then returned after taking off his shorts. That angered Vallejos even more and he began to fight Perez, who had a baton. Perez was briefly knocked unconscious, then retrieved the shotgun and shot Vallejos.

Perez is being held on a murder charge.
