HOBBS, N.M. (AP) Jury selection is scheduled to begin in the murder trial of a Hobbs man accused of shooting another man in the face. The Hobbs News-Sun reports that Alejandro Castaneda slated to appear in court Monday in the case involving the death of Jorge Morales.
According to a criminal complaint, Morales was found dead in May 2011 with a bullet wound to the temple and face. Investigators say Castaneda later told police that he shot Morales because Morales had pointed a gun at him and had threatened to kill him. Authorities say Castaneda admitted to going to Morales' house and shooting him while he was lying on the sofa.
If convicted, Castaneda faces up to life in prison.
